R&D Assembly Technician

Inboard Technology is seeking a R&D Assembly Technician to work in Santa Cruz, CA who is eager and excited to join a high-growth startup. The ideal candidate will have a passion for developing an in depth assembly process, hands on work, along with troubleshooting to fix the unfixable. This candidate is hardworking, not afraid to jump into production at any stage, who possesses tremendous communication, leadership and organizational skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Support new product development release cycle
  • Build electro-mechanical electric skateboard sub-assemblies (Alpha, Beta, and early production units).
  • Troubleshoot and repair pre-production materials
  • Assembly and modification of early engineering prototypes as required
  • Build test fixtures and support equipment as required
  • Review of assembly instructions and provide inputs for refinement and improvement
  • Incoming inspection of piece parts for production line operation

Skills & Technical Qualifications Required:

  • AS Degree in a technical field (Engineering, Science, Technology) preferred
  • 3+ years of hands on experience assembling technical systems.
  • Good knowledge about manufacturing methods and processes to build electronic and mechanical assemblies.  Familiar and comfortable using various types of manufacturing assembly hand tools and testing equipment.
  • Read and follow assembly instructions and general workmanship documents and specification.
  • Provide feedback to engineers on operational instructions for transfer of product to other production facilities and from Alpha / Beta into production

Senior Manufacturing & Test Engineer

Contribute your technical manufacturing, equipment design and project management skills to a dynamic development team creating active transport solutions. The role requires hands-on participation in new product development teams that create and refine electro-mechanical components, assemblies, process documentation, tooling and test methods while challenging new product designs to improve efficacy, reliability, manufacturability and cost for electric motor driven solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Take complete manufacturing responsibility for design implementations into production.
  • Create, maintain and improve pilot manufacturing assembly line, specifying and/or refining BOMs, workflow processes, manufacturing plan and detailed work instructions.
  • Design, document, procure, qualify, implement, and improve fixtures, tools and equipment.
  • Define mfg process & test requirements
  • Develop test fixtures & mfg process instructions
    • Coordinate Test HW & SW development with Engineering
  • Provide hands-on production support through successful and sustained project launch internally and with CM partners.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement projects with respect to first pass yield, cycle time reduction, product reliability, capacity enhancement and cost reduction.
  • Provide design engineers with product and process DFx (Manufacturing, Assembly, Support/Service) input to enhance manufacturability of new products.
  • Take responsibility for maintaining compliance with quality system including corrective action closure, discrepant material dispositions and ECO implementation.
  • Provide technical support analyzing and /or performing failure analysis for discrepant production components, assemblies and field returns.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • BS / MS degree in Engineering discipline or equivalent work experience.
  • 5-7 years experience as design or manufacturing engineer supporting product with significant mechanical / electromechanical content.
  • Must possess strong communication skills to interface with technicians, product development, planning, purchasing, inspection, customer support and clinical marketing teams.
  • Prior responsibility for process, equipment or product validation/verification in consumer electronics or action sports.
  • Prior experience designing automated equipment, complex mechanism manufacturing is a plus.
  • New product introduction/development experience required.
  • Working knowledge of lab tools and equipment.
  • Soldering/re-work & board level debug skills.

Senior Electrical Engineer Embedded Systems

Inboard Technology is looking for an individual that has a very deep understanding of embedded electrical systems design. This individual will work within a team of electrical and mechanical engineers to design cutting edge electric mobility devices and all the systems that make these vehicles perform safely, predictably, and excitingly. Our first product is a high performance electric skateboard that can be used by enthusiasts as well as the commuter that needs to go the first or last mile. This individual will play a key role in helping to define the vehicles systems, user interfaces, safety interlocks, and performance characteristics.

Responsibilities:

  • Define high level system architecture for systems on the vehicle such as battery monitoring system, sensor inputs, motor controller, high current busses, communication interfaces, and display/user interface.
  • Has a strong voice in the electrical architecture and direction of products sold by Inboard Technology
  • Work with component vendors to qualify parts to meet the needs of the system architecture
  • Conduct peer reviews of designs, features, and marketing/engineering specifications. Schedules and leads design reviews at strategic points of a product’s development.
  • Perform circuit design, schematic entry, and oversee board layout for system circuit boards
  • Write embedded firmware for vehicle systems as well as functional test systems
  • Assist with building a test infrastructure to get full test coverage of all features

Senior Mechanical Engineer

Inboard Technology is currently seeking a Sr. Mechanical Engineer. This position owns the design and development of assigned components and systems, ensuring Inboard Technology has best-in-class mechanical design practices for its products, in order to achieve company objectives. Furthermore, this position has the responsibility to co-lead the optimization of systems and processes used in the design function and to mentor other Engineers as well as effectively communicate Engineering content to other company functions. This position is full time and will be working at our Soquel, California headquarters and report to the VP of Engineering.

Responsibilities:

  • Has a strong voice in the mechanical architecture and direction of products sold by Inboard Technology.
  • Identifies unique opportunities for Inboard Technology to develop, protect, build and maintain competitive advantage.
  • Sets appropriate mechanical design strategies in the creation of assigned components.
  • Schedules and leads design reviews at strategic points of a product’s development.
  • Develops in-house mechanical design excellence within the functional group.
